Blog Title: Therapy Isn’t a Straight Line—And That’s the Point
There’s this myth that therapy is a smooth, step-by-step journey toward becoming your "best self."
You show up. You talk. You grow. You level up.
Easy, right?
Yeah, no.
Therapy Is a Messy Hike, Not a Paved Road
In reality, therapy is more like wandering through a dense forest:
Some days, you’re moving with purpose.
Other days, you’re lost in the emotional weeds.
And sometimes? You trip over the same root you thought you dealt with already.
It’s not linear. It’s not predictable. It’s not always forward.
But that doesn’t mean it’s not progress.
The Myth of Constant Growth
For a long time, I thought every session would build perfectly on the last. That if I showed up, did the homework, and kept trying, I’d eventually reach some kind of emotional summit where everything made sense.
Spoiler: That summit doesn’t exist.
There are sessions where I walk out feeling powerful and clear. And others where I feel like I’ve taken ten steps backward.
But here’s the thing: That’s not failure. That’s the process.
This Is What Growth Actually Looks Like
Real growth isn’t neat. It’s:
Revisiting old wounds
Sitting with discomfort
Getting it wrong
Learning how to recover
Therapy doesn’t hand you a roadmap. It teaches you how to make peace with uncertainty.
It teaches you how to navigate yourself.
And that includes the moments when you feel stuck, lost, or like nothing is working.
You’re Still Moving
If you feel like you’re spiraling instead of soaring? You’re still doing the work.
If you’re doubting everything you thought you knew? You’re still growing.
Healing isn’t about perfection. It’s about permission—to be human, to be messy, to keep going.
So if your progress feels nonlinear, confusing, or chaotic...
Good.
That means you’re right where you’re supposed to be.
