Hard Truth: Rest Isn’t a Reward—It’s Maintenance

We live in a culture where rest is treated like a reward—something you only get once you've earned it.
“You’ve worked hard, so now you can rest.”
But that mindset is complete nonsense.
Rest Isn’t Optional—It’s Essential
Rest isn’t a reward.
Rest is maintenance.
And if we keep treating it like something we don’t deserve until we’ve “earned it,” we’re doing ourselves a huge disservice.
Here’s the truth:
Our bodies—our minds—are not built to keep going non-stop.
We need breaks.
We need to step away and recharge.
Not because we’ve been productive.
But because we’re human.
There’s No Such Thing as “Too Busy to Rest”
That’s just an excuse we tell ourselves to avoid the uncomfortable reality:
We’re burning out.
Whether you’re:
A parent juggling a million things
An employee trying to meet endless deadlines
Or just someone trying to keep up with the chaos of life
If you keep pushing without rest, you’re setting yourself up for a crash.
Therapy Called Me Out on This
I used to see rest as a luxury—something I’d get to after everything else was done.
But my therapist challenged that.
Rest isn’t a luxury.
It’s a necessity.
When you ignore that truth, you’re not just tired—you’re building a foundation of exhaustion that will eventually collapse.
You’re Not Lazy. You’re Tired.
We have this strange belief that stopping to rest means we’ll fall behind. That we’ll be seen as lazy. Weak. Unmotivated.
But in reality?
When we rest, we’re:
Refueling
Repairing
Recharging
We’re not getting ahead by grinding ourselves into dust.
Take the Break. Without Guilt.
If you’re feeling burned out or overwhelmed, ask yourself:
When was the last time I rested… without guilt?
When was the last time you:
Took a full day for yourself
Turned off your brain
Didn’t judge your worth by your to-do list?
Take a break.
You’ve earned it.
And that’s not just permission from me—That’s permission from your body and your mind, too.
